Shilparamam literally translates into ‘Crafts Village’ in English. Shilparamam seeks to keep craft relevant- to people in general, so that crafts and thereby culture can become a part of daily life, and to artisans for whom crafts are more than a mere livelihood- they are a way of life. Shilparamam Society under the Department of Tourism and Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh is a registered body under the AP Societies Registration Act, 2001 is mandated to keep alive State’s arts, crafts, cuisine and other cultural aspects through promotion, preservation and popularization.


Shilparamam which literally translates into ‘Crafts Village’ in English, seeks to keep arts & crafts relevant- to people in general, become a part of daily life, and to artisans for whom crafts are more than a mere livelihood- they are a way of life.


Shilparamam facilities are organised as experiential bazaars, with a view to create a market for traditional weaves, arts and crafts of Andhra Pradesh in an ethnic, artistically evocative atmosphere. They are meant to be a nucleus of Andhra Pradesh culture as well as a showcase of the varied artisanal traditions of handlooms and handicrafts that represent different parts of India.

Objectives
  • Create sustainable livelihoods for artisan community & preserving cultural traditions in myriad ways.
  • Establish centres of visual arts, creativity, crafts and culture to create awareness about the arts and crafts of Andhra Pradesh while creating a showcase of national handicraft to the people of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Set up craft villages where tourists and locals can have an immersive experience of Indian arts, crafts and culture, while creating conducive environment for preservation of national crafts and involving general public, especially women in the preservation of their rich cultural heritage.
  • Provide technical/marketing/development/skill upgradation or any other training to the crafts persons of any establishment or enterprise of any description whatsoever which is likely to facilitate or accelerate the development of arts & crafts etc.,
  • Support artisans with means, resources and technical and managerial assistance to enable them to develop and improve their methods of manufacture, management, marketing and techniques of production, thereby improving their livelihood opportunities.
  • Collaborate with State and National agencies etc., both Government and Non-Government agencies for promotion and preservation of Handicrafts, Handlooms traditions and other Cultural aspects.
Vision

To Uphold the great legacy of Andhra Pradesh arts, crafts and culture by increasing public understanding, appreciation of, and support to the artisanal traditions of the State.
